No.6 ARKET 72 HOUR 3 WAY DUFFLE
Look Hook No.6 - Arket 72 Hour 3-way Duffle Bag
So many reasons to big-up this bag, not least that its only £135 (click). In short, the 72 Hour-3 Way Duffle is killer piece kit that delivers on multiple fronts. Arket’s luggage offer is pretty good (clicky) but The 72-H 3 Way is particularly special. From packed in its little sheath, it expands to double roomy, with enough space for a 3-way testimony, even. Intended for versatility and specific ‘carry-on’ advantages the 72 hour Duffle turns out to be much more. “Utility and functionality first*. The Cordura nylon, the tuck away backpack-straps, the 3-in-1 design are all customised to fit necessities.” Anna Teurnell Head of Design at Arket tells me. Just then pandemic history happened.
“UTILITY & FUNCTIONALITY FIRST” HOOKS, LINE, & SHRINKER.
“The luggage that survives Lockdown is the luggage to the end” says Michael Holden, writer (click-mans). “Lockdown meant the end of travel, but created new luggage roles.” Holden explains. “Take two emergencies: An impromptu oversized-toaster gifting happening exactly as early Covid-19 Lockdown hits the UK”. Alas no bag could handle the girth of the double birth Dualit (click-click) Holden hoped to install in his new gaff. Enter the Arket 72Hour 3-way which duly consumed it, facilitating his cycle to Stamford Hill with securely mounted toaster on his back. “They say you don’t know bout Human Beings until they’re under pressure. This is doubly true of bags.” More from this bag-fan later.
From a styling point of view the 72H 3-way model carries strong MA1 flight jacket references (click) which get me well enthused. In khaki green, navy and black, with untold compartmental pockets, the contrasting gauge of the knitted nylon handles combine to conjure MA1 action vibe actually born of practicality . “The Cordura® fabric is one of the most durable and reliable material there is.” Scandinavian Teurnell asserts. “It’s also a water-repellent material, adding another layer of functionality.” While intended for so called ‘carry on’ versatility, this poly-math-sack storms into your life like special forces boarding an Easy Jet to Malega on an overbooked flight featuring dubious check-in profiling.
Unfurled from its compact sheath, the 72-3way Duffle starts as a relatively sedate, large, squarish combat holdall with modest handles- a neat, smart contemporary bag suited for work in the Metropolis . Activate its across the shoulder strap and it morphs into another beast entirely. Within its cavernous interior find all manner of panels, meshed compartments pockets and more zips. Versatility central, the thing zips entirely open to hang as a kit-bag-suit-carrier-fusion. This bags says “action, misappropriated military, dynamic, modern- and sexy”, but in succinct way.
For me its a blatantly urgent piece that demands use across my life style, often when no Arket required. Choose your own combo of tough webbing nylon straps, some dangling, D-rings and clasps realised black dull metal, ratchet-ing up the action quotient. A concealed zip compartment reveals two rucksack shoulder straps converting the rig into a back-pack. Maximum strap amalgam delivers a combat bondage parachute feel, see images below. Something distinctly parachutey goes down when the 72Hour is applied in Ruck-Mode.
72-HOUR ESPRESSO STANCE
“To be parachuted into the shit and then to survive is the ultimate action test ” says Holden in N16. But shit is relative. “For a single person on bicycle (the most eco friendly travel mode, am seldom off two wheels during Covid 19) with a bad back, the 72hour 3 way- works like a dream for basic survival stuff”. A rare trip to Sainsbury’s perhaps? “Do you need a bag sir? They ask. With pride at the check out I deploy the 72-3 way…No. this is my bag” (click-mate).
Further idea are suggested from Design Boss Anna. “These bags can accompany any lazy summer day. By the sea, picnic in the park, outdoor work-out sessions, you name it! Use matching bags in the same style or mix with other sizes from our the luggage series.” Diggin’ the matching combat luggage scene, Anna. Big shout of for ingenious chic bag creation.
I’m a devoted holdall guy. Holden is a rucksack man-dem, while designer Anna is an international traveller, yet the 72Hour 3-way Duffle has brought all of us together during Covids blight and post Lockers emergence. Now that’s above and beyond the call of duty for a bag any three days of the week. Right?
Stubbs out.
